一人で焚く火が、いつしか燃えさかってゆく。その炎をただ見つめている。言い切らずに「ゆくを」で止まる句のかたちが、火に見入ったまま言葉を失っている時間をそのまま写している。The fire he tends alone burns up higher and higher, and he only gazes into the flames. The poem breaks off unfinished at "blazing up," and that unfinished shape mirrors the time in which, lost in the fire, he has run out of words.
