落葉ふる奥ふかく御仏を観るleaves falling — deep within i behold the buddha

落葉の降りしきる奥深く、御仏の姿を観ている。堂の奥の仏像とも、落葉の奥に見えてくる何かとも読める。降りやまぬ落葉が、そのまま読経のような時間をつくっている。Deep within the ceaseless fall of leaves, he beholds the figure of the Buddha. It can be read as a temple image in the inner hall, or as something glimpsed deep among the leaves themselves. The unrelenting fall of leaves makes of itself a time like the chanting of sutras.
