朝から庵のあたりで、かさこそと音がする。木の実をたべに来た鳥だろうか。起き出して姿を確かめるでもなく、寝床でただ音だけを聞いている。訪ねてくる人のまれな独り暮らしのなかで、鳥の気配がそのまま朝の客になっている。Since morning there has been a rustling around the hermitage — a bird, perhaps, come to eat the berries. He does not rise to check, but lies in bed simply listening to the sound. In a solitary life with rare visitors, the presence of a bird becomes the morning's first guest.
