津島の俳友たちとの別れの句。見送られる水辺で、水鳥が浮いたり沈んだりしている。別れの言葉のかわりに、水鳥の無心な動きだけを差し出す。寂しさは言わないことでかえって伝わる。A parting poem for his haiku friends in Tsushima. At the waterside where they see him off, waterfowl bob up and dive down. In place of words of farewell, he offers only the innocent motion of the birds. The loneliness, left unspoken, comes through all the more.
