ひつそりとして八ツ手花咲くutterly hushed the fatsia flowers bloom

戦死者を出した家を前にしての句。ひっそりと静まりかえった家の庭に、八つ手が白い花をつけている。悲しみの家の時間が止まっても、花は花の時間を生きている。その落差だけを、句は静かに置く。A verse made before the house of a man killed in the war. In the garden of a home fallen utterly silent, a fatsia (yatsude) puts out its white flowers. Even when the time inside a house of grief has stopped, the flower lives out its own flower-time. The verse quietly sets down only that gap.
