川をはさんで、男と女が声を張りあげて話しこんでいる。水の音に負けない声で、話は尽きるところがない。渡れない水がかえって話を弾ませているようで、旅人はそれを面白く聞いている。Across the river a man and a woman call back and forth, deep in talk. Voices raised over the sound of the water, and the talk never runs out. The water they cannot cross seems, if anything, to quicken the talk, and the traveler listens with amusement.
