前書に「大浦天主堂」とある。冬の雨に濡れた石段をのぼってゆく。のぼりつめた先には、サンタマリヤの御堂。禅門の行乞僧が、異国の聖母の前にしずかに立つ。The headnote reads 'Ōura Cathedral.' He climbs the stone steps wet with winter rain; at the top waits the sanctuary of Santa Maria. A Zen mendicant stands quietly before the Holy Mother of a foreign faith.
