誰も来てくれない日、蕗の佃煮を煮る。来客用でもない、自分ひとりのための常備菜。煮つめる匂いが庵に満ちて、さびしさもいっしょに煮つまっていく。On a day when no one comes, he simmers butterbur (fuki) in soy sauce. Not a dish for guests, but a keeping-food for himself alone. The smell of the simmering fills the hut, and the loneliness simmers down along with it.
