昭和十二年の元旦。壁に掛けかえた新しいカレンダーの一月一日に、日の丸の赤が刷られている。新年最初に目に入った色を、そのまま句にした。一年がまっさらに始まる。New Year's Day of 1937. On the January 1 page of the new calendar hung fresh on the wall is printed the red of the rising-sun flag. He makes a verse of the first color to meet his eye in the new year. A whole year begins, blank and new.
