「自画像」と前書きされた句。ぼろを重ね着して着ぶくれて、鏡の中の顔はなんともおめでたい。正月の「おめでたい」と、間の抜けた「おめでたい」をかけて、自分を笑ってみせる。A verse prefaced "Self-portrait." Bundled up in layered rags, the face in the mirror looks positively "omedetai" — auspicious. He plays the New Year's "auspicious" against the other sense of "omedetai," simple-minded, and laughs at himself.
