ひよいとのぞいて蓑虫は鳴かないpoking out its head the bagworm does not sing

前句と対をなす蓑虫の句。顔を出したものの、蓑虫は何も言わない。鳴くという言い伝えのある虫が、ただ黙ってそこにいる。その沈黙をじっと見ている作者もまた、ひとりで黙っている。A bagworm poem paired with the one before it. Though it has poked out its face, the bagworm says nothing. A creature the old tales claim can cry sits there in pure silence. And the poet who gazes at that silence is likewise alone, and silent.
