信州飯田で病に伏せたときの句。まことに山国、見わたすかぎり山ばかり、その上に月が出ている。「月の」と言いさしたまま句が閉じる。その先の言葉を持たない病中の心細さが、余白に残る。Composed while ill at Iida in Shinshū. Truly mountain country: as far as the eye reaches, nothing but mountains, and above them the moon has risen. The poem closes with 'the moon's,' broken off. The forlornness of a sick heart with no further words to give trails off into the blank space.
